We’ll be announcing the artists and performances soon that will be part of this edition’s program. Until then, keep dancing!

Merengue is more than just music or dance; it is a living expression of identity, community, and cultural resilience.

Originating in the nineteenth century in the Dominican Republic, merengue emerged from a fusion of African rhythms, European dance forms, and Indigenous Caribbean influences. Over time, it developed into a powerful cultural language that tells stories of love, migration, social inequality, resistance, and pride. For many, the rhythms of merengue remain a connection to home, keeping memories, heritage, and community alive across generations and borders.

Thanks to its accessibility and resilience, merengue has survived dictatorship, oppression, and displacement. Anyone can take part, because everyone can lead and everyone can follow. You dance with the person next to you. In this way, the dance floor becomes a space for encounter, equality, and collective joy.

What if connection could triumph over division? What if there were no fixed roles, but shared responsibility? And what if joy were not a form of escape, but an act of resilience and togetherness? Come join us and experience it at Korzo.

Angela Alfaro, founder of Latin Soul Dance in The Hague, curates an evening celebrating the deep roots and vibrant rhythms of Afro-Latino culture. Through dance, music, storytelling, and food, she invites you into a shared space of encounter, connection, and community.
